Advice, unheeded.

A conversation between myself and a local friend J…

Me: Any advice for going to Huangshan?
J: When are you going? And for how long?
Me: Um, in a few days. And I’m not sure for how long.
J: [Look of disbelief]
Me: [Innocently] What?
J: You should book rooms AT LEAST a month in advance!
Me: But… it’s not a weekend!
J: Doesn’t matter. Huangshan is ALWAYS popular
Me: Oh. Well, er…
J: Who are you going with?
Me: Um… Maaaybe a friend from class?
J: [Drops head to hands in disbelief]
Me: [Innocently] What?
J: [Momentarily at a loss for words] Go with a local. Go with a local.
(30 min later at a lull in conversation)
Me: Sooo… Any other advice for Huangshan?
J: [Shakes head in disbelief ] Go next month. Go with a local.

And so it was that I headed to Huangshan, two whole days later, with no reservation for lodging at the top of Huangshan, not knowing if I’d be there one night or two… And without a local (nor any other person) in my company.

The full report on Huangshang… Next!
